Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

We will consider studies that further astrological research, including but not limited to:

• Statistical testing of astrological hypotheses
• Evaluations of astrological techniques
• Historical analyses of astrological claims and frameworks
• Astrological analyses of historical data
• Case studies that motivate further research
• Experimental designs
• Replications of existing research
• Critical reviews of existing research
• Meta-analyses
• Methodological innovation and critique
• Substantiated analyses of possible theoretical bases of astrology
• Relevant historical, sociological and philosophical analyses of knowledge production

In all cases, it is essential that the study involves the transparent application of a method to a research question. Within this, studies that are supportive or critical of astrology are equally welcome. There is no single appropriate structure, but studies will generally have an introduction, methods, results, discussion and conclusion. Studies should make their hypothesis clear, and cite relevant existing work. Supplementary material is encouraged and will be published online. Supplying or linking to datasets and code provides transparency and increases credibility.

There are no strict requirements on submission length, but 3000-6000 words is generally appropriate. All submissions should be prepared according to APA style and grammar guidelines. We encourage the use of LLMs to assist with compliance with these. Please also read our Writing Guide for Correlation Authors. Clarity, simplicity and readability matter. Scientific papers should not be hard to follow, and often less is more.

We encourage the appropriate use of LLMs in writing articles, including technical aspects of this process and translation where required. However, papers must be substantially author's own work, and we may require a statement of the extent of use of AI.

During submission, preprints may be published elsewhere. However, in the case of a submission being accepted, we require that the final published version is not published elsewhere for a period of six months from publication. If published elsewhere subsequently, it should be noted as originally published in Correlation, and linked to the journal.

Due to the time required to process and review submissions, articles may not be submitted to another journal during submission to Correlation. Articles may be withdrawn from submission at any time. 

When you submit an article, you will receive an automated confirmation, and this should be regarded as confirmation that your article has been received. While we aim to get in touch as quickly as possible, we receive a large number of submissions and may not be able to do so immediately. For papers taken forward, the the editorial and review process takes at least three months. However, depending on space in the journal, it typically takes six months to a year, and may take longer than this.

Correlation is published in January and July each year. The respective submission deadlines for consideration of articles for these issues are 1st September and 1st March.
